Group Therapy

Group therapy can be an ideal choice for addressing your concerns and making positive changes in your life. To see the current groups offered, click below.  A Life In Balance offers closed groups where all members begin and end the group at the same time.  Closed groups foster trust, accountability, and friendship, creating a lasting bonds and strong support systems.  At A Life in Balance, groups consist of 10 to 15 participants who meet weekly for one to two hours.  Group size and duration depends on the topic of discussion. Group therapy is used to treat a wide variety of conditions, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and ​eating disorders.  Group therapy also has been found  to assist individuals in coping with anger, stress, divorce and grief and loss to name a few.  Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Individual Therapy or Group Therapy?

Integrating group therapy with individual psychotherapy can increase your chances of making valuable, lasting changes. If you've been involved in individual psychotherapy and your progress has stalled, joining a group may jump-start your personal growth.

Benefits of Group Therapy

Groups can act as a support network and a sounding board. Other members of the group often help you come up with specific ideas for improving a difficult situation or life challenge, and hold you accountable along the way.    Groups also provide a safe place for people to share. 

 

Groups therapy reduces feelings of isolation and allows individuals the opportunity to receive the support and encouragement of the other members of the group.  Regularly talking and listening to others also helps you put your own problems in perspective. Many people experience mental health difficulties, but few speak openly about them to people they don't know well. Oftentimes, you may feel like you are the only one struggling — but you're not. It can be a relief to hear others discuss what they're going through, and realize you're not alone.  Group therapy allows people to receive the support and encouragement of the other members of the group.

 

Diversity is another important benefit of group therapy. People have different personalities and backgrounds, and they look at situations in different ways. By seeing how other people tackle problems and make positive changes, you can discover a whole range of strategies for facing your own concerns.
